Good morning all. New participant on these forums. Interesting read with lots of information.

Anyhow, I've got a Marine Air Systems air conditioner on my 28-foot Bayliner. The unit has always been quite the pain . . . works occasionally . . . lots of HPF codes and the like . . . it'd heat up, throw the breaker . . . you know the drill.

The strainer's always clean, no constricted or crimped lines or obstructions. After trying darned near everything, I got it working properly only by keeping the V-berth open wheneve I wanted the air to work. Seems that the return air vent is inadequate (planned to address that at the end of the season).

That was two weeks ago.

On Saturday, me and the admiral were on a weekend trip to another marina. Got there, fired up the air. It ran for about an hour during which me, the admiral and rest of the gang went for some adult-type libations.

I came back to find a light haze of smoke, a nasty 'electrical burning' smell and the lights out at the control panel of the air conditioner. The breaker tripped . . . obviously.

The unit was still quite hot.

I thought maybe it was the strainer again so I cleaned that and tried to fire it up.

Two seconds of 'buzzzzzzzzzz' then the usual thwack of the breaker being tripped.

Have I blowed up my air conditioner or is there something simple I might be able to try?

Please and thanks.

From what you have said has happened up to this point…My guess is that it was never something simple from the start…But maybe a combination of several things.

I would need better descriptions of seawater plumbing, wiring, control location, temp sensor location, grill sizes, duct sizes etc. to get to the root of you having so much trouble…posting pictures would help too…

Right now I would not attempt to run the A/C…Until you find & repair what and was burnt electrically…

Might be time to call in a pro to take a look.

OK . . . I can't run the air because it won't even start up. Immediately trips the breaker so complying with that won't be too difficult.

I'll get all the specs and some photos tonight and post them.

Thanks,

Chuck

Chuck~

What I will need pictures of is the install…Things like the thru-hull, pump & strainer location/s…A/C unit size & location…Grills…Sizes & locations & duct sizes to those grills…I also need to know which control you have so that we can go into the program mode & tell it to shut the unit off if it sees High Pressure before the breaker trips…

I still can't find your burnt wire/s from here…

OK . . . it is a Vector Compact 10,000 BTU model number 205 311 300. It was brand new in August 2007. How do I go about uploading pictures as I've got a few of them for you to have a look at.

Chuck…That's the product number…I need model…Should start with VCD or something like that…The first three letters will tell me exactly what control you have.

Here's instructions on uploding pictures http://marine-ac.com/forum/jus…..very-easy/

Chuck…I don't show a "VDC" model…Could it be a "VCD" or a "VCP" ???…Hate to nitpick but, It makes a big difference in the control model…

You can send e-mail thru the "Contact Steve" link on the top left of every page here on the forum & on the site.
