Marine Air woes.

Hello all..Just want to start by saying thank you for this terrific site that I hope can even help a novice like me.I have either a 6 or 7k BTU Marine Air Passport unit that was installed in my '05 Grady. Earlier this week she was cooling like a champ with no complaints. Water temp is somewhere in the mid 70's and she was cooling the cabin at 65F.After shutting it down in the morning I went to start it up toward the late afternoon and discovered it was no longer blowing cool air but the compressor was on and the water was pumping out the side of the boat. On the panal it would show it in cold mode but no cold air. Same for hot. When I would adjust the T stat for it to heat, the heat light would lite up but no hot air. Im not getting any error message on the panal and everything sounds like it normaly does but there is no cold or hot air.

If you see lights indicating compressor running in cooling and/or heating modes…And you are sure the compressor is actually running in either/both modes…Then I would say that you have either lost seawater flow, or you have lost all freon…

Loss of Seawater flow is most likely.

Thanks for your reply Steve. My pump still pumps water when the compressor kicks on and it flows normal out of the side of the boat. Could there be a vapor lock in the unit that would deprive the unit of water and direct it out of the thru hull?

Steve, from your experience:

-if the freon level is low or gone what part tends to fail on a 4 year old unit?

-is it worth fixing an A/C unit that lost its freon or is it the norm to just replace the entire unit?

Thanks again for taking the time to lend your knowledge and expertise.

-if the freon level is low or gone what part tends to fail on a 4 year old unit?…I'm not sure I understand that question…You mean to make it leak ?…Usually it's a solder joint somewhere…If you mean what can it affect….Low freon causes compressor overheat & failure.

-is it worth fixing an A/C unit that lost its freon or is it the norm to just replace the entire unit?…That would depend on where the leak is, and the overall shape of the unit…Sometimes galvanic action attacks all the solder joints (evidenced by them turning black) and a repair of one may be good until the next one starts leaking…

Thanks again for taking the time to lend your knowledge and expertise.
