compressor won't run

I have a 1999 392 silverton with 2 16000 marine air vector series factory installed self contained units with passport II controls located in southeast Louisiana (hot). Noticed over the weekend that the forward unit was blowing cabin air not cooling, the aft unit was fine. After reading some of the posts and checking a few things this is what I have come up with so far. Fan runs but compressor and water pump does not in both heat and cool modes. Checked freon charge with gauge and have just over 100psi. Before I get a service tech out to the boat, is there any thing else I can check to figure out the problem?

Does it even make an attempt to start ?…Do you see lights dim, or have you watched your volt/amp meter at the panel to see any dips or surges ?

Hmmm…

Pump does not run either…Seems the t-stat is not calling for cooling or heat…Do you get a cool or heat light ?

The light comes on at the t-stat, and there is 1 small click that comes from the unit. Checking power at the control board at the unit there is no power going to the compressor. Is there a safe way to jump power to the compressor?

If you have a cooling light & no power is sent out the pump or compressor terminals…Then I would say the board is bad, and needs to be replaced…

I will need a model number of the unit (mainly the first 3 letters) to be able to tell you if a replacement board is available from Marine Air.

Thanks Steve, I will try to get that info tonight and get back to you. But just to check things can I apply power to the compressor to make sure it will kick on? Also where would the model number be, I haven't seen it so far, I'll probably need a mirror to check the top of the unit as it is tucked away nicely in a compartment.

Yes you can jump power over to see if the compressor will run, but don't run for long as none of the protections will be active…

Model is usually on top of the evaporator coil…

With that VCP model number the unit should have come with Passport II hardware…

The Passport II board is available for $450 retail, but the Control/Keypad is not.

I mention the keypad because if you were to have one fail you would be out of luck except for taking a chance on e-bay or the like…

The retrofit kit to the newer Passport I/O includes both (and both board & display are available for) is not much more @ $565 (which I can discount)

Sales under $500 I do not discount…

It may be a better deal in the long run to buy the kit for this one & keep the keypad for the other system as a spare…However I don't know how long they will be offering the Passport II board…But I'm sure the price of that board will go up…(one of the older boards they offer is over $1000 now)

Just a couple of thoughts/options…

Thanks for all the help you have given so far. Is there a way to tell which board and keypad that I have? Do they look the same or is there some easy way to tell? I know when we purchased the boat in June of 1997, the owner was having trouble with the same forward ac unit and replaced the keypad during our purchase negotiations. I don't remember exactly what was happening but I think the unit was not cooling just the fan was blowing, but I'm not really sure.
