Hello str8fan…

The easiest way to prime & check a A/C seawater pump's installation, is to simply remove the pump discharge hose from it's hose barb & open the thru hull while the boat is in the water (no need to run the pump to do this)

Water (and the air) should run out…If it does not, then there are a few possibility's:

  • The thru Hull is blocked.
  • The Pump is mounted above the water line.
  • There is a loop or dip in the plumbing that traps air.

If you still can't get it after checking this we can talk further…

Hello,

I am new to your site but am very glad that I found it. My issue is similar to the other poster. I have a 2005 Boston Whaler 305 Conquest with a Cruisair 9000 btu unit. The boat was new to me last year and being in Michigan the boat must be hauled and winterized. When I put the boat in the water and tried the air unit it worked but it did not pump water. I checked the water pump and it is working fine. The thru-hull is not clogged and the strainer is ok. I was thinking of back flushing the system with a garden hose by way for the discharge port as I think that there is an air gap somewhere in the system. I tried your suggestion of disconnecting the discharge hose on the pump but the factory really 'Gorilla'd' it on and I am afraid of breaking the housing in the process. I did notice that at the discharge point on the hull side there is a loop. Since the boat is in rack and launch storage I hope that I do not have to do this every time is comes out of the water.

I would appreciate your thoughts on this issue.

Thanks!

Unfortunately….With a loop, you will experience the same thing every time you pull & launch the boat.

All factors that I mentioned above must be adhered to for self priming.

I'm sure there is got to be a way to cut (slit) the hose loose from the fitting & get rid of the loop/s.

There needs to be a constant uphill from thru-hull , to strainer, to pump, to unit…And all this (except unit) needs to be below the waterline or you will have trouble everytime you haul & launch…Also many times after being underway.
