breaker tripping in heat mode only

My 16000 Marine Air self contained unit is tripping the circuit breaker only when in heat mode. Water flow is great and starts up when unit calls for water and the unit runs well in cooling mode. My water temp is low 70's ( I am in Fall River Mass). I suspect it is the reversing valve but do not know how to prove or disprove it. I have tried flipping back and forth from cooling to heating before unit trips, but this did not work. The unit is at least 12 yrs old if not the original (25 yrs old). If push came to shove I would rather replace the unit with a new more efficient unit.

Below is a copy of my answer to you in the other thread:

"I don't know where you are…But it's too hot here to even think about running heat  Cool

Seriously though…I would expect high amperage draw in heat…These systems are reverse cycle heat, but unlike home…one side is water & the other is air…when in heat they "Reverse" duties…

When running in heat mode you are removing heat from the refrigerant with the air coil in the cabin…Air is not as efficient as water at doing so, and in the summer with warm water temps there is a lot of heat in that water to pick up & git rid of in the cabin…If the cabin is hot, the air coil cannot do it so well…

Is the unit tripping that 30 amp breaker ?"

Do you need heat this time of year ????

It's kinda like when you tell the doctor…Hey Doc…It hurts when I do this…Doc answers…Well don't do that !

Take two aspirin & ask me again come cooler temps…But the heat should not be used with cabin temps much above 75 degrees.

Steve~
