I have a 1995 Marine Air self contained system (VHE 12k serial, number 14-11975) ECU Passport controller. Our boat is in Texas, very hot right now. The system worked fine until this morning. I noticed the blower fan was not working, the motor was buring hot to the touch. Turned system off for a few minutes and back on,everything worked fine. Did have a burnt wire smell thought. , and should, the blower fan be replace or does soneting else need to be done?

Hard to say from here, but it could just be the blower…It's obviously overheating, and may be shutting off on it's own internal overload…

The smoke smell is indication that you may not have much time left even if you oiled the moter at the two oil ports at each end of the motor.

Steve, thanks for your reply. If the motor does go out can it be replaced or should I upgrade the complete system, it's a 1994? What can I expect to pay for a new motor? It appeared that the coil had some icing on it, was caused by the fan not running? Sorry for all the questions, I'm a new cruiser owner and would love to learn how to fix as many issues as I can on my own.

Yes the coil will ice without air flow across it…

I don't think your fan (motor or complete blower) is available from Marine Air anymore…If it is/was it would be around 5 to $600…(they changed blower types a year or so ago) and that was the price then…Today I don't know if they offer the old style replacements…The parts price book does not indicate that they do…

At 5-$600 for a blower…Considering the unit is from 1994 and is over 15 years old…Yes it may be time to consider a complete replacement…

Steve~
