Hi Steve from afar!! First of all, I really want to thank you for all the help youve given me over the past couple of months. Its not often that brain surgeons give "how to" advice over the phone; yer da BOMB!!

At the end of this thred, I am going to ad some pics. If there is any problem with my method, dont hesitate to grill me about it! OK… so here goes.

As you know, this past week has been spent installing a cabinet and stove on the sub. For those who dont know me, I am from Chicago and have 2 boats. A 1963 36 foot aluminum Roamer Hull #6 since 1973 and a 1974 58 triple cabin Hatteras that was an insurance recovery that I bought in New Orleans in 2006, got it running, and ran her home on her own bottom.AND there aint no AC on the boat except for an old 220 V window shaker that has kept us "cool" LOL…

As per whats been covered on the Flybridge forum, I am sqeezing some AC time in in between other projects. Some real trouble shooting is gonna happen in the next week or so, and I guess youll be rolling your eyes before this one is done haha!

Today, I spent a few hours dragging out the two antique ColdWave units that were given to me for a test run. UhOh! Neither one was winterized and upon adding water found two gushers. Both had splits in the cooling coils, with one compressor having no freon and the other letting water out the Schrader valve. So as far as I am concerned, they are junkers and available for parts if anyone wants them.

On to the sub… The upper salon air handler had the two bladed fans (16K btu) and now have two nice squirrel cage blowers to put on the unit. Will one suffice, or perhaps both? I couldnt find any CFM ratings on them yet but I am still trying. If in fact, the compressor for this unit is DOA, I may still go with a free standing unit upstairs. I asked before about the pump downstairs handling the stateroom AC and being able to pump a 7 foot head upstairs to the salon. Its a Taylormade PML 500L 490 gph at 3 feet of head.

I havent had a chance to look at the 220V 24K lower salon unit yet to see if thats tied into the pilothouse handler and both being belt driven or not.

I still need to check the stateroom units 12K each (?) and maybe install those upstairs on each side of the upeer salon (Florida Room)from now on. Confused yet? We will be heading back to the boat in another day or so, and I will be able to get some data off of whats there now. Let me know what ya think after a few cold ones OK? Thanks again, Bill "yachtsmanwilly"

So this is the pump that came with the 12K unit for the master. Will it supply enuff water 7 feet above for an additional free standing 24K unit?
To try and uncomplicate this story, I may take the old units out of the staterooms below and put them both in the Florida Room, that is, if both compressors are good. Most of the controls and tubing are good, and pre run so that will make it an easy (!) transition. If one of the compressors is bad, can I run a 12K air handler on a 16K compressor?Surprised

Bill…Is there a data plate on the cold wave units ?…I'm looking for btu…Reason I ask is those blowers look a bit big…If you move too much air across the Cruisair coil with too much CFM you won't get cold air…just lots of cooler air…Not good for humidity removal.

WOW! Yer an early bird! I am guessing the KW units are 13K by the tags. I am waiting for an email from the company that bought Brundage in the 90's to confirm blower CFM (lol).
I would suppose that the two SR airhandlers are 12K each (?) The rooms below deck are about 10X10 and 10X12 respectively. Probably have two seperate compressors for them as well. Id like to put those two in the Florida Room for a total of 24K.
If I do that, the red pump will suffice for the small unit in the master. The adjacent SR is now a tool room so that doesnt matter.
Now the biggie ;-)) If the two 110 comps and the 220 comp for the salon are good (plus maybe the V berth 110 unit as well!), all can be cooled by the OEM seawater pump adjacent to the units in the ER. The OEM pump motor is bad. I can replace the motor, or I also have 2 other BIG pumps for AC cooling that I have amassed over the years.
I hope this simplifies things for you. I hate to sound like I am all over the board (I AM!!) because this stuff is new to me. The labor is cheap, but I cant blow a ton of dough on parts. ws

Hey Steve… almost done with the stove and will commence on the 12K master stateroom unit this week. YIPPEE !!! I noticed your post on the "other place" about the blowers and thought I could ad a little to that here.
On that new unit I salvaged, while removing the squirrel cage I discovered a few things that Joe Average may overlook; The set screw is a torx screw, and as you and I both know, there is a hole in one blade (vane) to access that screw with out bending the blade. The other thing I found is that while my cage was bent and I straightened it successfully, the inner and outer rings were no longer indexed with the blades. This causes the blades to run at about a 5 degree angle from perpendicular. VISUALLY, it appears to wobble, but in reality its straight with little or no vibration.
Looking forward to having a cold bedroom later this week… regards, Bill

Got the cooling pump istalled yesterday. All is well there. Looks like I am gonna have to build a shelf for the blower to exit with least resistance into the master. Do you think its OK as far as cold air return is considered? There is a mark on the wall about 14 inches above where its sitting, even with the hose and wires. This also gonna help condensate drainage. Thoughts? Ideas?? ws
